Service Areas › Carlsbad
Carlsbad runs from the older beach blocks near the village out to La Costa and Aviara, and the salt exposure drops off sharply as you drive east. That distance matters for what hardware we specify.
Olde Carlsbad and the streets west of the 5 hold homes from the 1940s through the 1970s, frequently with original cast iron drains and bathrooms that have been added onto rather than rebuilt. La Costa, Calavera Hills, and Aviara are 1980s to 2000s construction with larger master baths, and those usually get a full frameless treatment on 1/2 inch glass. Bressi Ranch is newer still, with tall ceilings and the kind of oversized walk-in shower that needs a custom panel rather than a catalog door.
Carlsbad Municipal Water District serves most of the city and is moderately hard, but the bigger issue near the coast is airborne salt and marine humidity that keeps the shower wet longer and accelerates deposits on hardware.
La Costa and Aviara baths commonly take a 1/2 inch double door with wall-mount hinges and a low-iron glass upgrade so the panel does not read green against marble.
Within a mile of the beach we push PVD or brass finishes, because plated chrome pits at the hinge pivot within a few years of daily showering.
Older Olde Carlsbad homes often have a bath that was expanded into a closet, leaving a sloped ceiling and an off-center drain that a stock neo-angle cannot handle.

Carlsbad has a high share of two-story homes with the master bath upstairs. A 1/2 inch door weighs enough that the carry matters, and we plan the stair path before we order glass so a panel does not get stuck halfway up.
30 inch and wider doors get 1/2 inch. Fixed panels can stay at 3/8 inch unless they are wider than about 34 inches, at which point we go thicker to control deflection.
Practically, within about a mile. From Terramar and the village west blocks we spec corrosion-resistant finishes by default, and inland toward Calavera Hills standard finishes are fine.
Yes. We measure the stair and landing path during the site visit, because a 1/2 inch panel that will not clear a landing is a problem we want to find before fabrication, not on install day.
