Encinitas is three towns wearing one name: Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia, and the Olivenhain hills. The beach cottages and the inland horse properties have almost nothing in common when it comes to a shower opening.
Cardiff and Leucadia are full of 1920s to 1950s beach cottages, many of them expanded and re-roofed repeatedly with bathrooms wedged into whatever space was left. New Encinitas and Olivenhain hold 1980s to 2010s builds with proper master suites. The remodels are the hard part, because a cottage bath that was converted from a porch will have a floor that pitches in an unexpected direction and a wall that is genuinely not plumb.
San Dieguito Water District serves the coastal part of the city and runs hard, and beach-block homes get both the hard water and the salt air, which is the worst combination for glass and hardware over a five-year window.
A Cardiff cottage bath frequently needs a fixed panel plus a narrow door because the opening is under 30 inches and the toilet sits within swing range.
Recent Leucadia and Olivenhain builds often specify a curbless walk-in with a single fixed panel and a 24 inch return, which has to be templated off the finished tile to avoid a leak at the floor line.
Baths built into old porches have shallow framing, so hinge anchoring sometimes needs a custom backer plate rather than lag screws into the stud.

Encinitas permits and coastal development rules can slow an exterior change, but interior glass normally moves fast. What actually slows these jobs is the tile schedule, because we cannot template until the finished surface is set and cured.
Yes. Narrow openings usually get a 24 to 28 inch pivot door with a fixed panel. We template it in person because those openings are rarely square and the door has to clear the toilet and vanity.
Once the tile and grout are finished and the waterproofing has cured, usually 24 to 48 hours. Measuring over fresh thinset is how panels end up an eighth inch off.
We recommend it. Within a few blocks of the water we spec PVD or brass finishes and a coating on the glass, because salt plus hard water destroys standard plated hardware fast.
